Supporting Our Immigrant and International Communities at UCLA
- The UCLA Graduate Students Association (GSA) created this flowchart to help students identify where to go for help with specific issues they might have.
- UCLA Basic Needs provides resources and services, information about on-going research that impacts students across California, and be up-to-date on new initiatives, programs, and events around campus to make sure the UCLA community is secure for food and basic needs.
- Bruin Resource Center (BRC) specializes in connecting former foster youth, undocumented students, transfer students, veterans, students in recovery, and students with children, with needed support.
- Community Programs Office (CPO) helps students from historically marginalized communities through student-run outreach and retention programs, including a food closet for any UCLA student who may be experience hunger and/or struggling to attain food due to financial hardship.
- LGBT Resource Center provides a comprehensive range of education and advocacy services supporting intersectional identity development, well-being, in an open, safe, and inclusive environment for UCLA’s LGBTQ community.
- Undocumented Student Program (USP)
- OMBUDS Services helps UCLA community (students, faculty, staff and administrators) with assistance in resolving conflicts, disputes or complaints on an informal basis.
- Evening Escorts Community Service Officer escorts are available free of charge to walk with students, faculty, staff or visitors 365 days a year from dusk until 1 a.m. between campus buildings, local living areas or Westwood Village. T: (310) 794-WALK (9255)
- Safe Ride Service UCLA Safe Ride provides a safe means of transportation around campus during the evening hours. The service is free of charge and available to all UCLA students, staff, faculty and visitors, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 pm–11:00 pm T: (310) 825-1493
RESOURCES: ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT
- Center for Accessible Education (CAE) helps students with permanent and/or temporary disability by facilitating academic accommodations and providing access to the numerous educational opportunities available to students at UCLA.
- UCLA Dashew Center provides resources for UCLA’s international scholars and students.
- Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) serves as a resource, referral and information center for graduate and professional school students, offering advice and assistance in dealing with the challenges of graduate school
- Graduate-Undergraduate Mentorship (GUM) bridges graduate/professional school and undergraduate students through mentorship. All UCLA undergraduate students may apply, GUM hopes to help marginalized students (e.g. first generation, undocumented, queer, underrepresented ethnic communities, etc.), who plan to apply to graduate programs in education, humanities, neuroscience, psychology, public health, public policy, sociology, social welfare, and urban planning.
- International Education Office (IEO) Diversity and Identity Abroad supports the many identities of our students who enrich their education through study abroad
RESOURCES: WELLNESS
- Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) All registered UCLA students are eligible for same-day clinical consultation and help with referrals, linkage, treatment recommendations, and coordination of mental health care and support regardless of insurance plan or current residence.
- Faculty and Staff Counseling Center helps employees achieve increased engagement, satisfaction, fulfillment and growth in their personal and work lives, as well as to function optimally as a productive member of the workforce.
- Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC) offers mindfulness meditation classes, workshops, and free online guided meditations that can help students, staff, and faculty reduce stress and relax.
- Resilience In Your Student Experience (RISE Center) a holistic well-being hub that provides programs, trainings, and self-directed resources to foster resilience, connection, and well-being.
- Resilience Peer Network (RPN) is a collective of UCLA undergraduate and graduate students trained to support fellow students. RPN’s fully trained Certified Resilience Peers can lead drop-in support groups for students through a research collaboration with the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge.
- Resources for Racial Trauma
- Screening and Treatment for Anxiety and Depression Program (STAND) can assess whether students are experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression and offer free treatment options using their mental health tracker.
- Underrepresented Graduate Students in Psychology (UGSP) supports and advocates for psychology students from racial, linguistic, geographic, or socioeconomic backgrounds that are currently underrepresented in graduate education.
